Homeless For Christmas

I thought it was about time I started getting into the Christmas spirit (not Brandy), and I was pointed in the direction of this stunningly simple set of seasonal greeting cards created by VCCP in an attempt to reunite the homeless with their loved ones this Christmas.

Here's what VCCP had to say:

“Each day, on the way to the agency we walk past dozens of homeless people who won’t be spending Christmas with friends and families.

Some of them haven’t spoken to their loved ones for a very long time, so we decided to do something that would help them get back in touch.

We designed ice breaker cards in which they could write messages and posted them, with the hope that they’d re-establish some relationships and create festive cheer.

It may not fit in with the more elaborate agency cards but we thought it was a simple idea to capture the Christmas spirit and help people who need it most.”

I thought this was a bloody lovely idea, and hope you guys do too.

Merry Christmas.

John Lewis Christmas Ad

What better way to announce Ad-miration's arrival back into the blogosphere *shudders* than to write about Adam and Eve's long-awaited follow up to the John Lewis Christmas advert?

This advert is just pure magical. It's a tear-jerking, emotional roller coaster and I know there are thousands of people who have shed a tear to this ad. And it's such an original concept to have a child eagerly awaiting Christmas morning not because he wants to receive gifts, but because he cannot wait to give his gift to his parents. It's a novel, sentimental and unbelievably charming spot and it's hard not to smile and be affected by this.

The final line of, "For gifts you can't wait to give" is beautiful and rounds of this ad perfectly.

This ad uses a cover of The Smiths' "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want", cost over £5m to produce, and has already trended worldwide on Twitter, been viewed almost 1.5 million times on YouTube, and is already being talked about as one of the best Christmas adverts of all time.

Kudos to Adam and Eve who have created a Christmas phenomenon. If they continue causing the public to eagerly anticipate these ads year after year, I see them going down in history as one of the very best.

What Coca-Cola advert?

XXXmas

Hm. How can we link Playboy with Christmas, Steve?
Bob...
What?
What does a Christmas tree look like when it's turned upside down?
Oh my. It does, doesn't it.

This is how I imagine the creatives went about coming up with this idea. I just wish they'd had the ability to come up with more than one idea. Just one isn't enough for a campaign. At best it's a good idea. Not an excellent one. Still pretty amusing and a good execution.

Sweet Ad O' Mine

This is the new John Lewis Christmas Ad from Adam & Eve, and it had a lot to live up to after their simply brilliant ad last year using a great version of 'Sweet Child O Mine'.
And I think they have done it.
This ad focuses on the joy of giving the perfect gift, and shows those going the extra mile to make it a special Christmas for that special someone.
The use of Elton John's 'Your Song' is a fantastic idea and it really is a great cover from Ellie Goulding, and was also produced in conjunction with Ben Lovett from Mumford and Sons.
'For those who care about showing they care' is a great strapline and the ad just works.
It leaves a small fuzzy feeling inside of me that can't wait for Christmas.
It really is an exceptional campaign.
More often than not, an agency make a piece of excellent advertising one year and fail to follow up the next, and this simply is not the case.
Well done Adam & Eve, you've done it again.

Christmas Is Officially Here

It's what we've all been waiting for, guys.

The Coca-Cola Christmas advert has got to be one of the most recognisable series of ads worldwide and it's back with a modern day look and I think it's brilliant. It makes me all excited like a little girl and that's what it's supposed to do. That and sell Coke of course.

I love the song, I love the idea that Santa makes everything better on Christmas, and I love the execution.

Watch this and get in the festive spirit in early November with me. I am seriously shaking with excitement, and I hope after watching this you are too.
