Snickers Add Pounds

Without Snickers, Mark Zuckerberg would not have created Facebook and he would not have become the world's youngest billionaire. Or at least that's what CLM BBDO France, who just won an Outdoor Bronze Lion at the Cannes Lions for this ad, are claiming.
Let us all take a moment to thank Snickers, for without them we wouldn't consistently be bombarded with astrocious spelling and poor grammar, we wouldn't be able to see when our exs have moved on and are in new a relationship, and we certainly wouldn't be able to see pictures of ourselves from the previous night, wasted, half-naked and rolling in the gutter.

...

Fuck you, Snickers.

A Great Ad to Run

Now I have a soft spot for long copy ads that motivate you to go out and do something, whilst playing with your emotions. I haven't seen a great ad like this since these stunning Vespa ads I posted a while back. But this ad here by Nike is certainly on par with them. It even motivates me to go out and run, and those who know me would know that's kind of a big deal. The copy really is excellent, it's just a shame I don't know the agency who produced it. Excellent stuff from a brand that continually produces great advertising.

Smokin' Ads Pt 1

Following on from the last post I thought I'd do a series of Anti-Smoking ads from around the world. In my opinion, ads like these don't work. They won't stop people who already smoke from smoking, but they can prevent people from starting. Check out some of these amazing ads.

This first ad is probably one of the best uses of shock I've seen for a long, long time. The image is so powerful and the art direction is simply stunning. This was crafted by Draft FCB for CONAC, the Chilean Corporation Against Cancer, and I just can't stop looking at the ad. It grabs your attention brilliantly. Truly inspiring stuff.

This next ad was created by Mercury 360, Bucharest in 2008 and is an excellent visual with a simple yet very effective piece of copy. Really nice idea.

Despite carrying an extremely wonderful visual, which out of all of these ads is the best one in my opinion to put the effect smoking has into an easy to understand visual, I believe the copy in this ad is stunning. It was created by Neogama BBH in Brazil. Great stuff.

This last ad is a really nice visual concept and a unique approach in an extremely cluttered market. I applaud the fact that CHI & Partners don't try to outright shock you, but instead use a subtle approach.

Auntie Smoking

Despite being a couple of years old, I think this is an excellent ad from Euro RSCG Australia for Nicotinell patches, warning of the effects of premature ageing. It's amusing yet delivers a serious message extremely well. I'm a big lover of public service ads and, even though this ad is selling a product, I think it's up there in terms of making a big impact with the reader.

Murder on the Dance Floor

Now I love these ads. They're an extremely unique and clever way to advertise a radio station and the idea of back to back music. The copy is excellent and taking it literally is a novel idea from Irish agency bloom, Dublin. I think the whole concept shows me iRadio is fun (whether they are not doesn't matter) and I would definitely give it a listen if I lived in Ireland. I also believe the play on words really appeals to the British sense humour. I'm not sure if other nations would get it, but who cares? Great stuff.
